Teresa Belmonte Appointed to Board of Directors at MAB Community Services, Inc .
Teresa A. Belmonte, Hemenway & Barnes partner, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of MAB Community Services, Inc. (MAB). MAB was founded in 1903 as the Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and is the oldest social service agency in the country providing services to individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Helen Keller served on its first advisory board, along with notable Bostonians Julia Ward Howe (author of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic") and Edward Everett Hale. In the 1970’s, MAB began providing for some of Massachusetts first community- based residential and vocational programs for adults with developmental disabilities. MAB’s Ivy Street School was founded in 1993 to fill a need for therapeutic and educational services for adolescents with brain injuries and other neurological disorders.
MAB’s mission today is to eliminate barriers and create opportunities in the community for people with disabilities. Teresa is honored to be a part of this great organization.
