Johanna Schneider Quoted in The Boston Globe Article, “After More Than Two Years, Cats Finally Find Sanctuary in Beacon Hill”
Hemenway & Barnes partner Johanna Schneider was quoted in The Boston Globe article, “After More Than Two Years, Cats Finally Find Sanctuary in Beacon Hill” on October 7, 2024. The article details a new “cat café,” A Sanctuary Cafe, which officially opened its café-bookstore in Beacon Hill this past July. The café features friendly resident cats, coffee and tea, baked goods and a micro-bookstore.
Johanna helped the owner, Brittany Baker, navigate the city’s strict health codes and cut through the red tape to get Sanctuary off the ground. “There was no precedent for this in Boston,” Johanna said. “We worked really hard to try to lay out a program that would provide a complete separation between these uses, which the codes say can’t exist in one space.”
