Boston Globe Article Features Legacy Fund for Boston – a Unique Collaboration to Redefine Historic Preservation

January 07, 2025

In November 2024, an inaugural group of 13 nonprofits across nine Boston neighborhoods were awarded $600,000 to support projects that enhance the city’s cultural character, historic spaces, and sense of community. The Boston Globe recently featured several of the organizations in, “Legacy Fund for Boston charity redirects city development dollars to historic preservation.” The full list of grant recipients and the funded historic preservation projects can be found here.

The Legacy Fund for Boston, a public charity administered by Hemenway & Barnes, supports historic preservation projects through a public grant application process. Funding for the grants comes from unique mitigation agreements that Hemenway & Barnes helped establish with Boston-based real estate development projects. The first round of grants was awarded in December 2024.
