Boston, MA

Join Michael Porter and a panel of Department of Revenue officials to learn about handing Massachusetts tax audits at the Boston Bar Association on April 2. The discussion will cover the tax audit process from the receipt of an audit notice through the issuance of a proposed assessment. A second program will be offered in May to cover the administrative appeal process, including abatement claims and amended returns, and the Early Mediation program.

He advises clients on state income and sales and use tax matters, including contesting proposed state tax assessments at the Massachusetts Appellate Tax Board and through all levels of the administrative appeal process. He also provides clients with tax opinions, ruling requests and general state tax advice.

Before joining Hemenway & Barnes, Mike led Deloitte’s Multistate Tax Practice in Boston and worked with the firm’s Washington National Tax Office. Prior thereto, Mike was a national partner at Arthur Andersen. He has also served as Deputy General Counsel at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
