Brad Bedingfield and Pat Moore to Present at Leading By Example: Best Practices in Charitable Giving on October 4

Hynes Convention Center, Boston, MA

10/4/2018

Brad Bedingfield and Pat Moore will lead a discussion on “Navigating the Line Between Issue and Political Advocacy” at the third daylong Leading By Example conference on October 4, 2018. The conference provides a forum for professional advisors, family office leaders, non-profit professionals, and donors to share their experiences, review recent developments, discuss best practices, learn from other experts, and express their passion for philanthropy.

About the Session: Navigating the Line Between Issue and Political Advocacy

Increasingly, foundations are interested in funding research and policy work which analyzes prospective solutions to our most pressing public problems – from education to the environment, automation to international trade. Understanding the permissible limits between informing and educating the public, on the one hand, and lobbying or political advocacy, on the other, is essential for any foundation considering contributions to non-profit entities that are active in our public discourse. This presentation will address those limits, recent legal developments, and the attention being given to donors who are active philanthropists and participants in the political arena.
